AUTHOR Summerbell, Anthony

PRODUCT TYPE Paperback (Paperback)

Description
In both our professional and personal life's our ability to make sound decisions is paramount. Should you move? Should you switch jobs? Should you work on this project or that project first? Should you marry this person? Should you get a dog? Should you email this project or meet with this person face to face to discuss? Where should you eat? and on and on. You make hundreds of decisions daily, but the question is though, how can you be sure that you're making the correct decisions, especially if you haven't been getting all the information you need? Believe it or not we seldom take into account some of the most important factors surrounding some of the biggest and most important decisions in our life's, but these omissions are happening unbeknownst to us. This information goes missing before we have a chance to take it into consideration because our subconsciousness deems it unimportant, unnecessary or attaches a signifier to it before our conscious mind has a chance to discern what is what. This happens because of bias. Each of us have varying degrees of bias that interfere with our ability to process all of the information that is available to us at any given moment. Bias is essentially a strong inclination of the mind or a preconceived opinion about something or someone that may be favorable or unfavorable based on the individuals underlying beliefs. Your mind unconsciously filters the information it processes using a serious of filters and mental templates that aren't always accurate per say. These bias's or "unconscious prejudices" skew the way we see the world and what we perceive to be "real" versus what is actually real. Often times our conscious self's are only witness to a portion of the story being told. This makes it difficult to ensure with 100% certainty that our decisions are correct let alone optimal and interferes with our ability to communicate with others. The purpose of this book is to help you identify and increase your awareness of bias in yourself and those around you in order to optimize your decision-making ability. There are over 150 biases listed in this book and many more that aren't listed. The idea is to alert you to their existence so you can recognize them and minimize the impact they have on your decision-making abilities.
