Bioactive Compound Production by Advantitious Root Culture of Noni

AUTHOR Shiragi MD Humayun Kabir; Baque MD Abdullahil
PUBLISHER LAP Lambert Academic Publishing (11/10/2012)
PRODUCT TYPE Paperback (Paperback)

Description
Adventitious roots were induced from 2-month-old young leaves of In vitro grown plantlets of Morinda citrifoli on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1 mg l-1 IBA. Among the different concentrations of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and -napthaleneacetic acid (NAA) tested, 1 mg l-1 IBA was proven as the best auxin source for adventitious root induction under fluorescent light. Accumulation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in induced root under different light showed a positive correlation with peroxidation of lipids and was observed higher under far-red followed by red plus blue light. However, the strong up-regulation of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity under fluorescent light played an important role in detoxification of the harmful effects of H2O2. In contrast, MS medium supplemented with 5 mg l-1 IBA as sole auxin source was proven most effective for rapid root growth and volumetric production of anthraquinone (AQ), phenolics and flavonoids. The overall root growth and production of AQ, phenolics and flavonoids were maximized when adventitious roots were cultured with 1/4 MS medium supplemented with 5 mg l-1 IBA, 10 g l-1 sucrose and 15 g l-1 (FW) inoculums size."
