In the 1980s a de facto economic bloc was emerging on the eastern edge of the Pacific-The 'Asia Pacific' region which was shaped more by market- based trade and investment relationships than any formal institutional structure. The region has a powerful global presence geographically demographically and economically, leading to the term -The Asian Century. The book undertakes to analyze some aspects of the growth, trade and investment patterns in the region. India has been referred to as the next giant after China. If India is to achieve sustained growth then there are several areas where new initiatives need to be taken.
