Author: Doyle, Michael Scott
Dr. Michael Scott Doyle (PhD, University of Virginia) is a Professor of Spanish, Translation Studies, and Business Spanish at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Doyle served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Spanish at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) during the 2013-2014 academic year. At UNC Charlotte he chaired the Department of Foreign Languages (1993-99) and served as Graduate Coordinator (1999-2003 and 2005-2009), Director of the Certificate in Business Spanish (1998-), and Director of the undergraduate and graduate Certificates in Translating and Translation Studies (2000-2012). He also chaired the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at San Diego State University (1991-93). To date, Dr. Doyle has 76 publications (64 single-authored), among them 13 books as well as book chapters, articles, essays, translations, interviews, and other contributions. Most recently, he is the author of a trilogy of articles on Business Language Studies, Business Spanish, and Language and Spanish for Specific Purposes: "Business Language Studies in the United States: On Nomenclature, Context, Theory, and Method" (focus issue of The Modern Language Journal); "Business Spanish in the United States: Evolution, Method and Markets" (Cuadernos de ALDEEU [Asociacion de Licenciados y Doctores Espanoles en los Estados Unidos; Spanish Professionals in America, Inc.]); and "Continuing Provisional Theoretical Cartography in the LSP Era" (Scholarship and Teaching on Languages for Specific Purposes [LSP]). He is certified by the American Translators Association (ATA) in both Spanish to English and English to Spanish translation.
