Born in Grosse Point Park, Michiganin 1925, Julie Harris has enjoyed success in numerous plays, films and televisiondramas. Her first hit was Member of the Wedding (play 1951, film 1955), followed by I Am a Camera (play 1951, film 1955), andVictoria Regina (1961).She played Emily Dickinson in The Belle of Amhurst (1976), and appearedin the television series Knots Landing from 1979 to 1987. Her morerecent films include Gorillas in the Mist (1988) and The HouseSitter (1992).

THORNTON WILDER was an American playwright and novelist. His novel I>The Bridge of San Luis Rey" won the Pulitzer Prize in 1928, and in 1998 it was selected by the editorial board of the American Modern Library as one of the 100 best novels of the twentieth century.

Dayton Duncan, writer and producer of Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery, is the author of five other books, including Out West: An American Journey along the Lewis and Clark Trail, in which he retraced the route of the expedition. He has been a consultant on many of Ken Burns's documentary films and was the co-writer and consulting producer of the PBS series The West.
